Updates!

Wow! A whole month went by with out any new posts! Here is an update on what's been going on:

INDIA MISSIONS TRIP!
Unless you have been living under a rock, you already know that a team of nine WOF members will be going to India this summer. The team is busy hosting banquets, having garage sales and selling tickets for a raffle to raise money. Please keep this missions trip lifted in prayer! The team consists of Pastor Rey, Bobby & Cary Minor, Mario & Mireina Morado, Selena Gomez, Eva Hernandez, Rocio Serrano and Christina Cardoza.

CONGRESSO- LEGACY
The youth have been busy selling AMAZING tshirts to raise money for their trip this weekend to Waco for Congresso. We expect this experience to be a blessing for our youth! Please pray for the youth leaders!

P.S. We aren't always asking people for money- we just got a lot going on! :)

CELEBRATE RECOVERY FOR WOMEN
Fridays at 7 pm

WHY CAN I TRUST THERE IS A GOD?
Pastor Rey will have a great message for Easter Sunday. Invite someone!

When you are the neediest, He is the most sufficient.

When you are completely helpless, He is the most helpful.

When you feel totally dependent, He is absolutely dependable.

When you are the weakest, He is the most able.

When you are the most alone, He is intimately present.

When you feel you are the least, He is the greatest!

When you feel the most useless, He is preparing you.

When it is darkest, He is the only Light you need.

When you feel the least secure, He is your Rock and Fortress.

When you are the most humble, He is most gracious.

When you say that you cannot, remember that He can!

Bring on the movement!

Surge guests were challenged Friday to step out of their comfort zone and volunteer in groups around the community. Groups are made up of youth and singles from different churches in the metroplex. So far we have the following groups completing the projects listed below:

  • Team Devoted - sending a care package to a soldier
  • Team 7up - making goodie bags for people in the ER waiting room
  • Team One Way - still brainstorming
  • Team Acts - completing several acts of kindness
  • Team Skinny Homies - planning to volunteer with Catholic Charities
  • Team Ninja Turtles - working with Pastor Lano to collect needed items for the homeless
  • Team Pollys - still brainstorming but will most likely have something to do with helping the homeless
If your team is not listed, please leave a comment and tell us your about Surge Project. Check your email for a Surge survey! We want to know what you think...let us know what you love about Surge and what we can improve - survey will be emailed soon.

Got Noise??

Why is silence so hard to deal with? Why is it so much easier for us to live our lives with a lot of things going on all the time than to just be in silence? We’re constantly surrounded with “voices” that are influencing us on how to think, feel, and behave. Movies, music, TV, Internet, cell phones, and a never-ending barrage of advertising. There’s always something going on. Always noise in our lives. But maybe there’s a connection between the amount of noise in our lives and our inability to hear God. If God sometimes feels distant to us, maybe it’s not because he’s not talking to us, but simply because we aren’t really listening.
Come on out this Sunday, January 18 and lets talk about it.

Bring it on!!

The Biggest Loser Contest (Waves of Faith Style) is well under way. Several members and friends have paid $20 to be included in the challenge. The Biggest Loser will be the winner of $560!! Ramon & Yvonne tried to sabotage a few competitors by offering buttery croissants, yellow cake and sugary fruit punch at a birthday party recently, but the challengers are still fighting strong. I have a feeling this is going to get U-G-L-Y.....and God don't like ugly.

Christina's new house

Next time you see Christina Cardoza, make sure you congratulate her. She is now a first time homeowner! She recently closed on a home in South Fort Worth, off of Hemphill and Berry St near Travis Avenue Baptist Church. One of main reasons for choosing this location is because she has a passion and heart for reaching the lost in this area. With the responsibility of owning a new home, comes some immediate needs. To help meet those needs we will be doing a couple of things. First, we will be having a house warming party on January 25, 2009 at her new house. Secondly, we're posting her bigger, more pressing needs here on this blog. She is currently in need of a refrigerator, insulation, a tv, and a bathroom mirror among other things. Keep checking back for an updated list. If you or anybody you know is able to meet any of these needs, please contact Christina at 682-597-1979.
